Pictures and video: Model air show takes off at Weston Park
Up, up and away! An international model air show that attracts thousands of visitors has got off to a flying start.
More than 200 model aircraft pilots – including some from as far afield as America, France and Germany – are displaying their talents at Weston Park.
Organisers at Wrekin Model Flying Club say their annual weekend is the biggest of its kind in Europe, and say about 15,000 people are expected to attend over the course of the three-day festival.
Models were yesterday buzzing around the park – both on the ground and in the air.
Steven Bishop, club chairman, said: "The best display pilots from around the world, our international guests are from America, France, Germany, all over."
Stuart Craddock, park operations manager at Weston Park, said: "We have had a great start to this year's international model air show and look forward to welcoming many thousands on today and tomorrow.
"The show's organisers have again put together a great line-up with three dedicated areas including the main show line featuring flyers from all over the UK and Europe with the return of the Elster and Horizon Jet display teams.
"The Helifest Park will give all action displays of heli aerobactics and new for 2015 The Quadcopter Fair will feature small microcopters to large and professional drones.
"There is a wide range of family friendly fun to be had throughout the show for what promises to be a busy weekend."
As well as the air show there will be a model boat regatta, slot car racing and a fun fair for children.
Tickets can be bought at the gate and cost £12 adults, £6 children, and £28 for a family ticket.
