Wellington Community Clock will be officially unveiled on Saturday by campaigners who battled to return the landmark to the town's Market Square.

A joint celebration organised by Wellington Town Council and the Tick Tock Campaign will start at 11.30am.

The clock started working again last Friday. It was moved to the town's new £7.5 million civic quarter this year before being taken away altogether.

A petition with more than 6,000 signatures persuaded Wellington Town Council to agree to return the clock to the Square.

Music will be provided by Wellington Town Band and the ceremony will take place at noon.

Wellington's Town Crier Percy Simmonds – who was also at the original ceremony in 2000 – will again proclaim the clock's installation.

Campaigner Peter Jones said: "We hope that those in the community that backed us in our endeavour to return the community clock will come along and celebrate what 'they' have achieved.

"Well done Wellington."
