Pupils from Sir John Talbot's School in Whitchurch learnt CPR as part of European Restart a Heart Day. All students who successfully completed the training on Friday were presented with a certificate.

Louise Morcumb, teacher at the school, said: "The British Heart Foundation recently gave CPR kits for teaching first aid. On Friday they tried to get as many school children to learn CPR as possible as it was European Restart a Heart Day. They sent us a personalised video which essentially ran the 40-minute session.

"I wanted to get involved when I read the statistic that you only have a one in 10 chance of surviving a heart attack in the UK, but one in four chance if you live in Norway.

"That is because in Norway they teach all their school children CPR techniques. As Sir John Talbot's School is in a rural area, we wanted to give our young people the confidence to prolong a life until the paramedics arrive."
