Shrewsbury High Prep School had a special visitor for its assembly as the mayor, Councillor Miles Kenny, visited the school to present pupils with two Shrewsbury in Bloom Awards.

Every year the Shrewsbury in Bloom committee holds a number of competitions in the town and there is a particular focus on introducing young people to the delights and educational benefits of seeing things grow.

As a result, the committee holds two competitions for schools – the Unusual Floral Containers competition and the Schools Wildlife competition. After judging in July by one of the committee members Shrewsbury High Prep School was named as the winner of both competitions.

Kate Millichamp, head at Shrewsbury High Prep, said: "

Environmental issues are becoming increasingly important in our ever-changing world and the educational opportunities that we have embraced from teaching and learning outdoors, ensures that our children are able to experience the relationship between their actions and the elements which support life on earth. We are thrilled to have achieved these awards and our teachers and children are incredibly proud."

Shrewsbury High Prep School will be holding its open morning on March 9 from 10am to noon.
