From classroom to newsroom at Thomas Telford School
A classroom was transformed into a newsroom for the day as pupils worked to create their own newspapers.
Thomas Telford School held its annual Year 9 news day, when pupils are tasked to create a front page, double page spread and sports back page of their own newspapers.
Pupils were given a talk by Shropshire Star senior reporter Sophie Madden, who gave them an insight in how journalists find stories and put a newspaper together.
Then the youngsters were split into teams, each with their own editor, bringing together a mix of national stories and news from the school in Old Park.
English teacher Lynda Dennant said the event is always very popular and the pupils really enjoy taking part.
She said: "It has been a great day, the pupils went away exhausted."
Each group had reporters who went around the school interviewing fellow pupils and teachers to find out about events which are going on at the school.
Thomas Telford is currently playing host to a number of Spanish exchange students and many groups chose to do a profile on the visitors as one of their stories.
Students also showed an interest in current affairs, taking on the US presidential race, the mass shooting in Dallas and the Conservative leadership elections as some of their stories.
Prizes were later awarded in categories including best scoop and best front page.
