Whitchurch went from one extreme to the other as they returned to winning form in spectacular fashion – thrashing Stratford-upon-Avon 60-24. The Reds had lost their previous two games in Midlands One West, conceding 101 points in the process. But the boot was on the other foot on Saturday, as they ran in nine tries against their shell-shocked opponents. Rugby: Ludlow 31 Whitchurch 24

[gallery] Delighted Ludlow believe they have established themselves as a Midlands One West force – with a stunning derby win at Whitchurch that could have transformed the Shropshire pecking order. Delighted Ludlow believe they have established themselves as a Midlands One West force – with a stunning derby win at Whitchurch that could have transformed the Shropshire pecking order. Former National League side Whitchurch were Shropshire's top club for many years and though they have long since lost that title to Newport, Ludlow are now making a serious case to take the No 2 spot off them too. Ludlow won 31-24 at Edgeley Park in what was the first league meeting between the two sides in more than 20 years. "We're very pleased because it is years since we beat Whitchurch in any competition," said Ludlow spokesman Phil Norton. "It was a huge result for us and really establishes us as a Midlands One team - we're in upper midtable and hopefully we can stay there."

Bridgnorth mother starts petition to end 24-hour licensing laws

A Bridgnorth mother plagued by late-night drunks has started an online petition calling for an end to 24-hour licensing laws. A Bridgnorth mother plagued by late-night drunks has started an online petition calling for an end to 24-hour licensing laws. Janet Smith, who lives in Cartway, had water poured into her house through an open window this week and claimed when she went to clean it up someone tried to steal her front door handle. Others in the street say yobs have urinated on their homes and damaged property. And one neighbour said she had excrement pushed through her letterbox. Now Mrs Smith has started a national campaign to change the current 24-hour licensing laws, which have allowed bars and clubs to stay open until the early hours of the morning in Bridgnorth. The e-petition calls on the Government to review current licensing laws and is asking residents to sign up to the campaign.
