Umair Mehdi, of Manor Road, Arleston, Telford, had denied raping the woman after taking her to a room at the Days Inn Hotel, off Junction four of the M54, in Telford, on October 26 last year. Medhi was found guilty by a jury yesterday after a trial at Shrewsbury Crown Court. Shakeel Ahmed, 23, of Regent Street, Wellington, was cleared of being a secondary person to the rape. Shaun McCambridge, of Sutton Hill, had previously admitted robbing Samuel Harris of a Yamaha bike and keys on July 18 in Hills Lane Drive, Telford, possessing an offensive weapon, namely a six inch kitchen knife, and breaching an Asbo. Reservoir body is missing man, 24

The body of a man pulled from a reservoir at a south Shropshire beauty spot has been formally identified as that of missing Shrewsbury man Laurence Edward Norton. The body of a man pulled from a reservoir at a south Shropshire beauty spot has been formally identified as that of missing Shrewsbury man Laurence Edward Norton. The 24-year-old, of Monkmoor Road, went missing from his home on July 19. He had last been seen at about 10am and was reported missing by his family the following day. An extensive search was launched by police around the Cardingmill Valley, near Church Stretton, where Mr Norton's rucksack had been found near the reservoir by a member of the public. Specialist water search teams the Severn Area Rescue Association and the South Wales Police Underwater Search Team were drafted in to aid the search for Mr Norton. His body was found by police divers on Friday morning and was formally identified yesterday. Read more in the Shropshire Star

Thousands of pounds of class A drugs have been seized by police and 24 people arrested in a major operation against serious crime across Shrewsbury. More than 100 officers from West Mercia's Serious and Organised Crime Unit and Shropshire Division took part in two days of raids this week as the culmination of Operation Clear, which was launched last July. Police targeted 24 premises - including the Rock and Fountain pub in Castle Foregate - and carried out raids across Meole Brace, Springfield, Castlefields, Castle Foregate and Abbey Foregate. Detective Chief Inspector Neil Jamieson, head of Shropshire CID, said 18 premises were searched with a warrant. He said 120 drug offences were detected.
