Two supermarkets reported an increase in trade of thousands of pounds on last year, with food shopping not appearing to have been hit by a squeeze in finances. Jim Bradford, manager at Tesco on Wrekin Retail Park, said sales the week before last were up 10.2 per cent like for like on the same period the previous year. He said they had seen an increase in sales of the value and discounted lines. Events coordinator at Asda in Donnington Wood, Telford, Dave Simmons, said since their refit, which included a mezzanine floor, sales were up in the chilled department. But he said they were about £10,000 down on meat sales, which he partly attributed to the summer season and people deciding to eat more salads. Read the full story in today's Shropshire Star
