Part of the A4117 at Rocks Green, near Ludlow, fell away on Friday, and emergency roadworks were set up to make the highway safe. Severn Trent Water officials have claimed the main burst on Wednesday and again on Friday causing the damage to the road. It left a number of homes and the Nelson Inn in the village without running water. Alan Powell, pub landlord, said he was forced to close the kitchens. Full story in today's paper

Stores in Highley, near Bridgnorth, sold out of bottles of water as villagers rushed to stock up until supplies were restored. The first pipe to go was a six-inch main which burst at about 5am yesterday. Another smaller main in the village went at about 9.30am.

Thousands of homes were left without water and schools were forced to close today after two water mains burst in the Black Country. Blackheath Primary School, Highfields Primary School and the Upper School of Oldbury College of Sport were forced to close their doors to pupils today because of leakages at the junction of Oldbury Road and Titford Lane in Whiteheath, Oldbury. Nearby Birchfield Lane was completely closed off and water flooded the street. At one point around 3,700 homes in the area were without water or reported only low pressure. More than 100 homes near a Shropshire village were left without water supplies for seven hours because of a burst main in Church Stretton.More than 100 homes near a Shropshire village were left without water supplies for seven hours because of a burst main in Church Stretton. Severn Trent spokeswoman Grace Marren said 126 homes outside Leebotwood had been affected. Supplies were restored by 6.30am today. She said: "The burst water main has been repaired now so everyone has water. "A total of 126 homes were without water for seven hours but it was mainly through the night. "We worked as fast as we could through the night to make sure the water was back on as soon as possible this morning. "The burst was in Church Stretton on the A49. We first received calls of no supply at 11.30pm last night. "We investigated and found there was a burst main which was why people had no supply and we sent out a team to investigate and repair it. Work starts today on replacing 15 miles of water mains around Wolverhampton and Walsall. Work starts today on replacing 15 miles of water mains around Wolverhampton and Walsall. Bosses at Severn Trent Water have pledged to keep disruption to a minimum by using 'no dig' technology where possible. Motorists have been warned they face more than a year of traffic disruptions and closures but will be given a chance to look at plans to see how they will be affected. Severn Trent is trying to cut down on the number of leaks in the Rocket Pool area of Bilston, as well as Bradley and Moxley. The work will cost £3 million and Severn Trent bosses say it will provide a more efficient service for customers by reducing the risk of leakage, mains bursts and interruptions to supply.
