The Government is currently consulting about the future of banking at post offices and Bruce Bill, sub-postmaster at Minsterley Post Office near Shrewsbury, says he believes it is vital more banking services are introduced. He says his business and transactions are down as an increasing number of people use other organisations for services. Clive Gant has taken the steps because he says that the income from his shop in Montford Bridge, near Shrewsbury, will not be enough when the post office branch he runs closes. Montford Bridge Post Office is due to close on February 12 and be replaced by an outreach service. However, that service has been delayed and Mr Gant, 41, has agreed to keep the post office open for 12 hours a week until it is introduced. Stephen Bentley had already wrestled one man to the ground in a bid to prevent him escaping with cash from the post office and stores in Waters Upton, near Telford. Mr Bentley, Telford & Wrekin Council member for Ercall Magna, had to be treated for minor injuries following the raid yesterday, at about 4.20pm.
