Doubts over £500,000 Hart windfall

Shrewsbury Town's hopes of pocketing a £500,000 windfall after goalkeeper Joe Hart made his England debut were today thrown in doubt. Shrewsbury Town's hopes of pocketing a £500,000 windfall after goalkeeper Joe Hart made his England debut were today thrown in doubt. Town were hoping to receive the cash as part of the transfer contract that took the 21-year-old to Manchester City for an initial £600,000 in May 2006. The League Two club negotiated a clause which would see the extra money forthcoming once the former Meole Brace School pupil made his international bow. That happened when he came on as a second half substitute against Trinidad & Tobago on Sunday evening. But it is believed that Shrewsbury are in negotiations with the Premier League club over the details of that clause and are yet to receive any money. Read the full story in today's Shropshire Star

Walsall set for Dann windfall

Scott Dann will become Walsall's largest grossing sale after moving to Coventry for a total of £1 million. Scott Dann will become Walsall's largest grossing sale after moving to Coventry for a total of £1 million. The amount of the initial down-payment for Dann is not known, but the fee Saddlers can receive for the player will total £1m if and when the performance related add-ons are met. The clubs have officially classed the fee as undisclosed, but sources at the Ricoh Arena have confirmed it as a seven-figure sum. This eclipses the £800,000 that Walsall eventually received from Bolton for Michael Ricketts, taking into account add-ons in the same manner as the Dann deal. Sources have also confirmed that the Dan Fox transfer package will be worth a total of £500,000, which, combined with the fee for Dann, may go some way to appeasing fans disappointed at the loss of two of the club's finest defenders. Shrewsbury Town are celebrating a cash windfall of £50,000 after Dave Edwards made his senior international debut - with the possibility of a first start to come tomorrow. Wales manager John Toshack turned to Edwards after just 37 minutes of Saturday's 2-2 Euro 2008 qualifying draw with Republic of Ireland at the Millennium Stadium after ex-Wolves midfielder Carl Robinson was injured. Town received an initial £250,000 for Edwards' summer switch to Luton, with an extra £150,000 worked into the deal based on appearances for club and country. And Town boss Gary Peters - who sent Edwards a congratulatory text message on Saturday night - has confirmed the first third of that is now due. Read the full story in today's Shropshire Star

A Black Country festival hit by a funding crisis needs more volunteers to help resurrect it following a cash windfall. Wordsley Festival had to be cancelled this year because organisers were unable to raise the £9,000 needed to stage it. But money will be no obstacle for next year's event – thanks to an £8,000 handout from the National Lottery. However, volunteers are still needed to help the dedicated committee to organise activities and are being urged to attend the festival's annual general meeting. It will be held at Wordsley Community Centre, on The Green, at 7.30pm on October 11. Read the full story in the Express & Star.
