Street patrols in Oswestry to crack down on under-age drinking have started, with unannounced visits to pubs and shops and booze confiscated from law-breaking youngsters. Members of The Oswestry Community Alcohol Partnership took part in the start of a series of patrols to help the retail and pub trade combat under-age drinking. The group visited three pubs and four shops to hand out advice and support. They walked around three of the town playing areas to speak to youngsters and also visited Trefonen and Gobowen.

A group set up to tackle Oswestry's under-age drinking problem was launched today. A group set up to tackle Oswestry's under-age drinking problem was launched today. The Oswestry Community Alcohol Partnership (Os-CAP) officially kicked off today at The Pedigree in Shrewsbury Road. More than 40 people attended the inaugural meeting of Os-CAP and heard that the group was determined to tackle the underage alcohol problem once and for all. [24link]

A Shropshire parish councillor has resigned from her post claiming rules have restricted her from contributing to the village. Glynnis Carr's resignation from West Felton Parish Council is the latest in a series of problems that the authority has faced in recent months. A succession of parish clerks have resigned amid claims of bullying. As a result of the latest departure, one of the councillors is now acting clerk. Mrs Carr sent a letter of resignation to council chairman David Curtis, in which she said she felt that issues surrounding the authority meant she could not continue.
