Work on the A483 at Newtown started this morning, much to the delight of campaigners. Critics say since the Kerry Road roundabout was replaced with traffic lights in February 2010 drivers have at times been stuck in queues up to five miles long. The work involves adjustments to the layout, line markings and detection equipment for the traffic lights at the Kerry Road junction.

Youths are throwing missiles at residents of the Nettlefords estate in Hadley, with at least one man having a near miss when a scaffolding pole was thrown at him "like a javelin". Residents today claimed the problem had been going on for months and they called for something to be done to stop it with a six foot high 70 metre fence put forward as a solution. A Shropshire woman who fought cancer today claimed she is being forced to scrub mould off walls at the home she rents from a county housing trust. Susan Tonks, of Webb Crescent, Dawley, Telford, said the medication she still takes for cancer and osteoporosis lowers her immune system. The 39-year-old said this leaves her open to easy attacks from bacteria, causing her to fall ill in an instant. She said a mouldy fungus was spreading through her home and this was a danger to her and her family. She today called for her landlord Wrekin Housing Trust to do more to help. But the trust today said appropriate action had been taken to rectify the problem and the tenant had been kept up-to-date of progress.

Pet ferrets are being used to kill hundreds of rabbits causing serious damage to sports pitches in a Mid Wales town. Welshpool Town Council has so far been unsuccessful in its attempts to address the "rabbit problem" which has been plaguing the town's Maesydre playing fields with holes. But now ferret owners appear to have taken the matter into their own hands and have started taking their pets down to the pitches in a bid to reduce the number of rabbits churning them up. Organisers of the celebration have called for Oswestry Town Council to allow shoppers to park for free during the day-long celebrations. They say lifting parking restrictions is essential to ensure the event, on July 31, is a success.
