Sixty-eight per cent of respondents across the two areas answered "yes" when asked if they thought the region had a problem. The online survey was carried out under the Big Drink Debate, an ongoing initiative with people continually being urged to come forward with their opinions about the drinking habits of their locality. The information, addressing the dangers of drinking both in terms of health and social disorder, will be used by health chiefs to deliver better help and support. Police in Shrewsbury have been asked to look into the problem of beggars and vagrants in the town centre. Police in Shrewsbury have been asked to look into the problem of beggars and vagrants in the town centre. The feedback from a recent PACT surgery highlighted concerns over beggars, especially on Frankwell footbridge and near St Julian's Friars footbridge. Complaints and concerns had come in from residents in the town centre and in Belle Vue, who said there was at least one beggar on the Frankwell bridge every day. Foul sewage erupted through manholes and drains into homes in Tilstock village, a public inquiry on a planning appeal by a developer heard yesterday. Charles Church North West is appealing against a condition imposed by North Shropshire DIstrict Council on its development of 29 homes in the village. The council gave permission but said the homes could not be occupied until the sewerage system was improved. At the inquiry yesterday, villagers told Nigel Burrows, the planning inspector, the system was inadequate and human waste was coming out of drain covers and manholes onto the street and into homes.
