Drivers were forced to sit in queues for up to an hour while engineers tried to repair the leak outside The Hawthorns. The exit at Junction 1 of the M5 at West Bromwich was shut in both directions. Tailbacks went from Junction 1 to Junction 3 at Halesowen - just over nine miles. The delays had a knock-on effect for motorists on the Black Country Route and past the M6 interchange at Wednesbury. They had to get off the motorway at different exits to avoid the chaos at Junction 1. The southbound carriageway reopened at 8.50am after being closed at 8.30am, while the northbound carriageway was still closed after the rush hour. One lane was closed on the Birmingham Road eastbound between the Halfords Lane junction and the Park Lane junction in West Bromwich. Read the full story in the Express & Star
