People in Childs Ercall, near Market Drayton, said the action group was "in the pipeline" after developers unveiled plans for the unit in a hangar in the village. It would house a demonstration unit where bosses from Wrexham-based In-Vessel Composting would show prospective clients how the hi-tech kit works. Almost 100 people attended a meeting in Childs Ercall last week to hear more on the plans. They raised fears over possible noise, smells and traffic problems. Read more in today's Shropshire Star

Developers want to build a massive composting unit to handle up to 20,000 tonnes of waste a year in north Shropshire, it emerged today. The site near Whitchurch would handle about 6,000 tonnes of municipal waste and about 12,000 tonnes of commercial waste each year. Civic leaders in Newport are wriggling with delight after their cemetery worm farm won an international accolade. Newport Town Council has scooped an award from The Green Organisation for its environmentally-friendly composting system at Newport Cemetery. Newport Town Council has scooped a Green Apple gold award from The Green Organisation for its environmentally-friendly composting system at Newport Cemetery.
