Freddie Fisher, the Big Brother contestant from the Shropshire border, is launching a new career - as a DJ.Freddie Fisher, the Big Brother contestant from the Shropshire border, is launching a new career - as a DJ. The 24-year-old will be sharing the bill with Boy George at Gibson's nightclub in Oswestry on Friday. And he says if rumours are true that Boy George could take part in the very last Celebrity Big Brother next year he is hoping to give the singer-turned-DJ some tips on how to survive. Freddie will go on stage at the Oswestry nightclub just after 11.15pm. It will be only his second engagement as a DJ. "I have always loved music and someone suggested that I look at DJ-ing. I bought a set of decks and took to it really quickly. I just love it. I went to a house party last weekend and was on them all night," he said. "I did a gig in Stoke-on-Trent last week which went well and am looking forward to being in Shropshire on Friday." Read the full story in the Shropshire Star

Contestants air their BB opinions

A Shropshire contestant was there at the start - and two more were there when it was announced the end was nigh. A Shropshire contestant was there at the start - and two more were there when it was announced the end had finally come. Yesterday Channel 4 declared the next series of Big Brother would be the last after falling ratings. Shropshire has had strong links to the show with builder Craig Phillips, from Newport, winning the first series of the show - while Freddie Fisher, from Market Drayton, and Kris Donnelly, from Shrewsbury, took part in the current series. Both were given the boot. Freddie today said it was a "shame" the show had been axed. He said it was "anticipated but disappointing nevertheless". "We spoke about the possibility while we were on the show, whether or not they would carry out doing that," he said. "The viewing figures have declined year on year. While it might have once been this massive cash cow it is not quite as much now. "It was a really good experience. It's a feature of the summer that we won't have any more." Craig said he was pleased Channel 4 had decided to axe the series. Read more in the Shropshire Star

An 11-year-old Shropshire schoolboy was "almost blinded" when fellow students fired ball-bearings at his head, his father said today. An 11-year-old Shropshire schoolboy was "almost blinded" when fellow students fired ball-bearings at his head, his father said today. The boy was in the playground at the Grove School, Market Drayton, when two other students fired a ball-bearing air gun they had brought into school. The 43-year-old father, who is from the Market Drayton area, said: "I was shocked and angry and really felt for my son because he is not an aggressive person. "He was half scared to death because he was supposed to be safe at school but instead got shot in the left temple and just below the hairline." He said his son, who he described as "well-liked and happy-go-lucky", was playing tag when he was struck. The victim suffered no injuries apart from red marks on his skin and has continued attending school. The father praised school staff who investigated, leading to three pupils being suspended.
