Edwards confident on the road

Dave Edwards believes away day specialists Wolves have struck on the perfect formula for success on the road. Dave Edwards believes away day specialists Wolves have struck on the perfect formula for success on the road. Wolves face a potentially crucial away day double header this week - with a trip to Preston tonight and Burnley at the weekend pivotal to their hopes of making the top six. Former Shrewsbury midfielder Edwards, however, insists the pair of away games hold no fear for Wolves, who revived their season with back-to-back wins away from Molineux. And he reckons recapturing the spirit of their victories at Palace and Colchester - where Wolves married defensive strength with razor sharp finishing - can bring more success at Deepdale tonight. O'Neill confident of signings

Martin O'Neill today insisted he was 'pretty confident' of adding to the Premier League's smallest squad after Villa's opening day defeat to Liverpool. Martin O'Neill today insisted he was 'pretty confident' of adding to the Premier League's smallest squad after Villa's opening day defeat to Liverpool. Saturday's disappointing 2-1 reverse to the Champions League finalists has again turned up the heat on manager O'Neill to find reinforcements. The season-long loan signing of Scott Carson is expected to signal the end of Thomas Sorensen's Villa career. But the Villa boss needs to strengthen his squad elsewhere, and Curtis Davies' exit from Albion moved a step closer after the former Baggies skipper was excluded from their 2-1 defeat at Burnley because he was feeling unwell due to the transfer speculation surrounding him. It has emerged Villa have turned down Albion's offer to exchange Luke Moore as part of the Davies deal. Read the full story in the Express & Star.

Shrewsbury Town chief Gary Peters insists money has not been a factor in the delay on out-of-contract duo Ben Herd and Steve Leslie signing new deals. The Town boss remains convinced both will sign the contracts they have been offered, and has set no deadline for matters to be tied up. He believes both will be keen to sign by July 15, when they will next get paid, but also moved to quash any suggestion that finance was the major stumbling block. Redfern is confident

New Shropshire star Dan Redfern has backed the county to make a serious assault on the Minor Counties Championship when their campaign gets under way next weekend. New Shropshire star Dan Redfern has backed the county to make a serious assault on the Minor Counties Championship when their campaign gets under way next weekend. The 17-year-old marked his Shropshire debut with a stunning century in the rain-affected victory over Northumberland in the MCCA Trophy at Oswestry yesterday. Redfern made his ton in just 105 balls, before eventually being bowled for 107 in the win, which was secured by virtue of a superior run-rate. Redfern, who is also on the books of Derbyshire and made his First Class debut last year, put on 174 for the second wicket with Jono Whitney, who made 82. Chaplow is confident

Richard Chaplow is convinced boss Tony Mowbray's attacking brand of football can bring Championship success to Albion next season. Richard Chaplow is convinced boss Tony Mowbray's attacking brand of football can bring Championship success to Albion next season. Mowbray's Baggies have thrilled and frustrated in almost equal measure since he was appointed boss in October, winning 20 but losing 14 of his 42 games in charge - including Monday's play-off final with Derby. But Chaplow reckons Albion's style of play since Mowbray arrived from Hibernian was one of the major positives of a campaign that ultimately ended in disappointment at Wembley. And after outscoring the rest of the Championship over the course of last season - Albion were the only side to hit a century of goals - the 22-year-old midfielder is adamant their attractive style can pay dividends. "If you ask a lot of the fans, I've heard them say we've played the best football they've seen Albion play for a few seasons," said Chaplow. Read the full story in the Express & Star

Star keeper Matt Murray today handed Wolves a huge boost ahead of their crunch promotion run-in by insisting he will be fit to face Southampton. The giant shot-stopper- one of the leading lights in Wolves' push for the Premiership - had boss Mick McCarthy sweating on his fitness after limping out of Saturday's 2-2 draw at Sheffield Wednesday at half-time. But the 25-year-old is planning to take full advantage of the international break by resting the joint over the next fortnight to ensure he's ready to face the Saints. Boss confident Bucks can triumph

AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith insists they will bounce back from their latest disappointing defeat, declaring: "We'll bale ourselves out of this." AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith insists they will bounce back from their latest disappointing defeat, declaring: "We'll bale ourselves out of this." The Bucks went down 3-0 at Fleetwood last night, a result that condemned them to back-to-back losses for the first time in more than a year. They lost their previous game 2-1 at Matlock, and with the 0-0 draw at home to Ashton last month included have now taken just one point out of the last nine on offer. But Smith is convinced they have the inner strength to find a way out of this rocky spell. "I don't think we're caving in, we've played worse than we did last night and won," he declared.
