Edward Murphy, known as Ted (pictured with wife Joyce), worked at David Austin Roses, where he helped prepare entries for the Chelsea Flower Show, among other duties. He died after his gold coloured 600cc Suzuki motorcycle was involved in a collision with a blue Vauxhall Astra on the Albrighton bypass near Cosford. Winifred Gregson, of Dawley Bank, Telford, has been left devastated after thieves stole a haul of jewellery which her late husband had given to her and a computer. Fortunately the 74-year-old was enjoying respite care at Rylands in Newport when the break-in happened. But her daughter, Pam, who is full-time carer for her mother, said the door which the thieves smash-ed through with a crowbar led to her mother's bedroom, so she would have come face-to-face with the thieves. But they said they were satisfied the man the caller reported seeing in the early hours of last Friday was not Neil Williams, who was found dead at the back of Churncote, Stirchley, minus his jacket, shoes, watch, phone and money later that morning. Police had launched an appeal for the caller to get back in touch after he made an anonymous call from a phone box in the Brookside area of Telford and his money ran out. A gang of armed robbers escaped with £75,000 in cash during a robbery at a Shropshire bank, detectives revealed today. A gang of armed robbers escaped with £75,000 in cash during a robbery at a Shropshire bank, detectives revealed today. The masked thugs, carrying a handgun, crowbar and sledgehammer, fled with the cash in two bags from Lloyds TSB in Shrewsbury after threatening staff on Thursday morning. The five men fled from the Mount Pleasant Road bank in a vehicle which they crashed into bollards in Sandford Avenue. Some of the money was recovered when two male youths picked up some cash near to the scene of the robbery. They were arrested by detectives but released without charge. The number of jobs available in Shropshire each month has increased by more than 800 in the last year, new figures have shown. The number of jobs available in Shropshire each month has increased by more than 800 in the last year, new figures have shown. While this week's latest jobless figures showed the biggest national increase in unemployment in two years, the new data, released by employment and skills specialist Working Links, suggests Shropshire's job scene is thriving. Between May and July this year an average of 2,210 jobs were available. This compares with 1,634 in the same period last year, which is an increase of 566 jobs, or 34 per cent. And Telford & Wrekin also saw a rise in the number of positions available, from 1,266 to 1,528 – a rise of 262, or 21 per cent. In total, the county had an average of 829 more jobs available each month than during the same period in 2010.
