A junior football league in Shropshire which stopped publishing match results in order to avoid embarrassing the children has made a U-turn on the decision. The Telford Junior League, which has more than 2,000 players from clubs in Telford, north Shropshire and Bridgnorth, came under fire for listing all results as 1-0 wins or 1-1 draws. The league claimed to be keeping to Football Association guidelines in withholding the true scores from its matches to spare the blushes of players aged between nine and 16. A Shropshire family told today how their summer holiday plans were in ruins following the collapse of tour operator Holidays 4 U. The company, which specialises in package deals and flights to Turkey and the Aegean, went into administration yesterday, leaving around 50,000 customers disappointed. Wendy Price, from Trench in Telford, said her family had paid out nearly £1,100 for a two-week self catering trip to an apartment complex near Marmaris, and had been due to fly out at the end of August. "It's a bolt out of the blue – we didn't see this coming at all," she said. "We are fairly certain we will get the money back because it's covered by insurance, but from what we've been told the claim could take between three and six months."[24link]

Tesco today performed a U-turn over its plans to redevelop its existing supermarket in Whitchurch and revealed it could go back to the drawing board for the site. Until now the company has insisted there was no scope for a major redevelopment of its existing store at White Lion Meadow. Instead it has pushed ahead with controversial proposals for an out-of-town store at Edgeley Park, which is the home of Whitchurch Rugby Club. But now in a letter to Shropshire Council planners, planning consultants DPP which act for Tesco, say the White Lion Meadow site could present a "major Tesco regeneration proposal". [24link]
