At a crunch meeting of the county council cabinet, Ann Hartley, member for children's services, proposed that plans to consult on the proposed closures should be scrapped to allow for more community studies to be done. But she said consultations on plans to amalgamate 16 other schools should still go ahead. The move was unanimously backed by all nine members of the cabinet. A crowd of nearly 1,000 protesters gathered outside the Shirehall were told of the proposal by MP Phillip Dunne and Liberal Democrat councillor Nigel Hartin, who came out of the meeting shortly before 10.45am. A ban which had been slapped on four senior councillors preventing them from going to Shrewsbury Town's new £15 million stadium was lifted today. It came after a meeting this morning between representatives of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council and the football club, including chairman Roland Wycherley. Council leader Peter Nutting, his deputy David Roberts, portfolio holder for sport Charles Armstrong and Councillor Tudor Bebb were all issued with the ban in September following a bitter feud over community facilities at the stadium. The owners of a new sport and entertainment complex near Oswestry have backed down over plans for an outdoor big screen and amplified outdoor music. The owners of a new sport and entertainment complex near Oswestry have backed down over plans for an outdoor big screen and amplified outdoor music. The Venue will form part of the complex at the former Park Hall Stadium, also the home of Welsh football giants The New Saints. A licensing application for The Venue has been opposed by people living near the complex concerned about the requested hours for entertainment of 7am-2am Sunday to Wednesday and until 4am Thursday to Saturday.
