The year 11 pupils at Bishop's Castle Community College went on a drug education programme after being found in possession of the powder by then headmaster Terry Hunt and members of the school's senior leadership team. Parents have been informed of the incident in the school's newsletter The Messenger and staff at the school have reiterated their zero tolerance to any use of tobacco, alcohol or illegal substances on school premises. Darwin structure is out of line

The £350,000 sculpture being built to celebrate the bicentenary of Charles Darwin, Shrewsbury's most famous son,  has been hit by technical problems which may never be resolved, it was revealed today. The 12m-high Quantum Leap, which is being erected in Mardol Gardens, is reportedly incorrectly aligned and as much as 18in off course at the top of the structure. Shropshire Council business development manager Dominic Wallis, who is helping to lead the project, said he was hopeful the problems would be rectified. The sculpture and a Darwin Memorial Garden in Mardol Quay have been created to celebrate the town's most famous son Charles Darwin and to mark the 200th anniversary of his birth. But the project sparked uproar after it was revealed that Shropshire Council had been forced to spend an extra £100,000 on the artwork, with the final budget adjusted to £450,000.
