Councillor Liz Walker, Dudley Council cabinet member for education, hit back at claims by Stourbridge MP Lynda Waltho, who said that she had been inundated with complaints from parents about closure of Cradley High School. The council decided to close it despite a concerted campaign by parents to keep it open. It is due to close in August 2008. Pupils in years 10 and 11 will complete their education. The deadline for public comment on the scheme passes today, after it emerged the development had been approved under "exceptional circumstances", despite going against planning guidelines. Officers for the borough council's Development Control department said the Dudley Muslim Association scheme "would improve the character" of the site in Hall Street. The regulations state that industrial land should be used to create manufacturing jobs, but the planners also highlighted the 112 jobs the development will create in recommending its approval.
