Musician Paul Young says his recovery from a leg injury has “taken a long time”.

The 1980s pop star, 69, previously revealed to the Mirror that he had fallen down some steps, suffering fractures “so close to each other, there was a danger of the leg snapping”.

Reflecting on the accident, he told ITV’s This Morning: “The recovery has taken a long time, but I think I’ve got to a point now where I look a bit saddle sore, hard day on the saddle.”

Young, known for hits including Wherever I Lay My Hat (That’s My Home), appeared on the show to talk about his tour, From No Parlez to The Secret Of Association – An Intimate Evening With Paul Young, which begins in April and involves him combining conversation with acoustic versions of songs.

“I’ve done a reshuffle on the show so there’s a few different things being talked about in the show,” he said.

“Because what I do is I tell stories behind things that happen, you know, people might see it on TV. I go, ‘Yeah, but how that happened was this and that, or something happened on that particular day’.

“So we tell stories and there’s a lot of things on the road that happened to you that you don’t think is going to happen to you as a musician, but they do, and so they’re like backstories behind the end thing that people see.”

Young’s accident happened in September and he was subsequently taken to Santorini General Hospital in Karterados, according to the Mirror.

“I put my foot on the first step, my leg slipped out from underneath me. I fell and my leg cracked as soon as I hit the step”, he told the publication.

“Once I’d gone down, I couldn’t stop. There was no handrail, so nothing to hold on to. I just thought, ‘I’ve lost control’.

“I fell down to three or four more steps, fracturing my leg again and again. It was a multi-fracture.

“When I came to a stop, I looked down and my leg was in a slightly weird position, underneath my bottom.

“I thought ‘I don’t like that. My leg shouldn’t be like that’, so I tried to straighten it up and that’s when the pain started’.”

“All the multi-fractures were right at the top in the femur, the leg’s biggest bone, by the ball joint so it was very worrying,” he added.

“The fractures were so close to each other, there was a danger of the leg snapping. The only medication they had was paracetamol.

“I was screaming out all the time and most of the time I had my eyes shut because the pain was terrible.”

Young tied the knot with his fiancee Lorna in 2024.

Young found solo fame following his work with bands the Q-Tips and Kat Kool & The Kool Kats – and has since gone on to front Los Pacaminos.
