Young defender James Meredith has been backed by boss Gary Peters to go on and establish himself as a fixture in the Shrewsbury Town side.
The 19-year-old Aussie made his debut in last Saturday's 2-1 defeat at home to Hereford, and was hoping to keep his place at Barnet this afternoon.
And Peters has seen enough from the former Derby and Chesterfield youngster to suggest he could play a big part in the club's future.
"He's done well," he said. "He's a young lad and he had only played the one League game before last Saturday.
"It was a good crowd and a good atmosphere, and he looked comfortable out there.
"He's someone that we hope can go on to be a good player for us. He's started well with a decent performance and now he can build on that."
Meredith played as a left-back last week, but Peters believes the 6ft 1ins stopper could even provide an option at centre-back if the need arose.
That would be a bonus for Town, who have been unable to find a regular partner for Kelvin Langmead all season.
Summer signings Colin Murdock and Darran Kempson have been the most common options, though Luke Jones, Marc Tierney and Darren Moss have all played in the heart of defence at one stage or another.
Jones is currently on loan at Blue Square Premier club Kidderminster Harriers, while Kempson made a temporary move to Accrington Stanley yesterday and was hoping to make his debut at Rotherham this afternoon.
"Kelvin's had a few partners this season, with Colin Murdock, Darran Kempson, Luke Jones and even Marc Tierney all playing there," said Peters.
"He's been the constant in there all the time and we feel the other ones haven't done it on a regular basis.
"We've got to try and get that squared off because we need more consistency and a settled defence would make that easier."
