"It was a bonus to play last night and I enjoyed it," said the former Kidderminster Harriers custodian.
"I only found out I was playing about 5pm which was probably for the best because I didn't have time to think about it too much.
"There were a few nerves before because it was my first Football League game for about four years.
"Although I have been playing for Kidderminster, it's still a step up from the Conference (Blue Square Premier). But I made a decent save early on and that settles you down.
"I was a bit disappointed with the goal because it's gone in on my side rather than the wall's side - but it has gone through a lot of bodies.
"On the whole though, I was fairly happy with my performance and hopefully it's enough to earn me another chance." Bevan admitted he was shocked to earn a Town debut this season.
"I know we haven't been on the best of runs but I was still a bit surprised Glyn was left out. I knew when I came to the club that it was going to be hard to get in but I didn't just come here to sit on the bench.
"You always have a few worries when the manager who signs you moves on (Gary Peters) but, at the same time, it's a fresh start for everyone.
"I've trained hard and felt I've done okay in the few reserve games I've played and I'm obviously delighted to get my chance."
Simpson was delighted to see his decision to rotate his goalkeepers rewarded with an accomplished performance from Bevan.
"I thought Scott was excellent," he said.
"Glyn has been in goal all season but I felt we had to change the cycle because of the run of results.
"I thought his physical presence would give us a lift and I think he commanded his area well, made a few good saves and kicked well."
