Luckless Shrewsbury Town midfielder Craig Disley will go under the surgeon's knife next week - but not for his broken ankle.

The former Bristol Rovers man will have a hernia operation, following on from his latest injury setback suffered at Rotherham at the end of last month.

But manager Paul Simpson is confident the injury will not extend the expected absence of Disley.

"Craig has been struggling with a hernia for quite a while now and we have been nursing him through," said Simpson.

"With him being out with a broken ankle, this seemed the right time to do it.

"It's really unfortunate for Craig but we still expect him to be back playing by the end of April.

"If we can get him playing this season then that would be fantastic but, if not, we have to make sure we get him right for next season."

An injury plagued first season at Shrewsbury has restricted Disley to just 17 first-team starts this term.
