The first match of the weekend was staged on the latest pool to be added to the Weston set up - the Canal pool.

Richard tackled the pool with long pole, using a pellet and corn combination.

The fish soon responded and Richard was kept busy for the duration of the match, and finished with 140-8-0 at peg 18.

At the next peg Chris Hughes (Wrexham) employed the same method, but gradually fell behind, to end the day in second spot with 83-6-0. Third went to another Wrexham rod, when John Murdock scaled 80-8-0 at peg 11.

The second match at Weston was on the middle pool, where Andy Jones (Oswestry) only had to go out to four metres with corn to find the fish at peg six, and that helped him to ease ahead of Bob Hill (Castlefields).

He was on peg 12, and went out to 16 metres for his fish, but was left needing one or two more at the whistle, as Jennings weighed 61-4-0 to his 55-8-0.

Junior rod Liam Wilkinson (Oswestry) filled third place with 35-2-0 which came from peg five.

In the week the middle pool gave some great sport, with the top four all beating the 100lb mark, and match winner setting a new pool record with 127-8-0. Chris Hughes was close behind on 124-6-0, Mike Philbin had 117-0-0 for third and Neil Jones completed the four "tons" with 101-4-0.

l Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) continued his winning ways at Boldings, adding two more wins this week to his individual victory on last weeks winter league.

He finished miles in front on the Thursday open with 81-13-0 from peg 10 on the Chestnut.

Mick Jameson (Middy ML) scaled 45-5-0 at peg 28 for second place, with another Rod & Gun team member Mel Kitson finishing a close third on 44-12-0 at 17.

On Sunday Eric made it three wins from three different pools when he drew peg 16 on the Larch, and made the heaviest catch of the week, 108-14-0, using maggot as feed and hook-bait.

Paul Cartwright OB Wolves) also used maggot at peg 49 on the Sycamore Pool, but was left nearly 20lbs short on 89-9-0. Ten lbs further behind was Jamie Longford (OB Wolves) whose 79-10-0 for third was best on the Oak Pool.
