The 49-year-old - who became a deeply unpopular figure by the end of a miserable reign at Molineux - is 9-2 second favourite with Bet365 but he faces a tough battle to get back into Premiership management.
Another former Wolves boss Dave Jones has been installed as the 7-2 favourite to take the Charlton job, but other front runners include former Rangers boss Alex McLeish, Sven Goran Eriksson and Burnley chief Steve Cotterill.
Ironically, Hoddle's Molineux successor Mick McCarthy is aslo one of the names being linked to the post.
Bet365 was quoting the Wolves boss at 20-1 to take over at Charlton this morning, but that scenario is highly unlikely.
McCarthy is in the embryonic stages of a rebuilding job at Wolves and has settled well in the area.
It is not the first time that Hoddle has been linked with the Valley job.
The 53-times capped was initially linked with Charlton at the end of May when still in charge at Wolves.
The link was denied then, but it appears to have more credence this time around.
Hoddle has strong London links after his time in charge of Chelsea and Spurs.
And he can point to his success at Southampton as evidence of his ability to manage on a limited budget.
But his reputation has been dented by his frustrating spell of underachievement at Molineux.
