A Shropshire school is celebrating success in a national rugby tournament after an unforgettable experience at Twickenham.

Year Eight pupils from the Charlton School in Wellington clinched the Emerging Schools Knockout trophy at English rugby headquarters on Saturday.

They came through qualifying at Staines before being whisked off to the famous stadium to play their final at half-time of the annual Army against Navy match.

And they proved too strong for Hockerill Anglo European College, chalking up a 5-0 victory.

It more than made up for last year's disappointment when they were robbed of a place in the final by a controversial ruling.

Charlton were undefeated, but missed out on Twickenham on tries scored after tying with Cams School.

But Cams were awarded a two-try victory in their first game because their opponents had arrived late.

"We were undefeated and hadn't conceded a try so there were a few tears last year," said Fowles, who plays for Stourbridge RFC in National League Two.

"This year it's just about the same team that's come back to win it and make everything right."
