Top county golfer dies

One of Shropshire's top golfers and a former deputy head at Ellesmere's secondary school, has died.

Doug Humphreys, from Trefonen, near Oswestry, died on Friday.

He was a Welsh International golfer and one of the county's most respected players.

He won the Shropshire and Hereford match play championship in 1970 and 1971 and represented Wales in the home internationals in 1972, as well as being crowned county amateur champion three times and open champion once.
