Playing at Montrose, Ludlow's Farr had started the day tied for 16th place and three adrift of the last qualifying place - third - after an one-over opening round of 71.
And he gave it his all yesterday with a superb 68 to end up tied for 11th on three-under par.
Gidney, from Church Stretton, was also in action at Montrose - but an opening 81 had left him tied for 92nd in the 96-man field going into yesterday's action.

Joining Farr and Prophet at Montrose had been Lee Rooke, from the Vale of Llangollen, but he could only manage a 71 to add to his opening round of 74 and an overall finish of tied-48th.
At Monifeith, Shifnal's Richard Prophet ended up eight shots off the three qualifying positions after a second round 70 to add to his first day 73.
And at Panmure, Bridgnorth pro David James finished eight-over with a second round 72 to add to his opening 76. That was good enough to see him finish tied for 47th place, but 13 shots adrift of the qualifying positions.
