Shrewsbury-born Scott Drummond fired a second round 81 to go with Thursday's 79, while former Shropshire Open champion Peter Baker shot a disappointing 76 after posting 73 on the opening day.
With typical honesty, Baker admitted he had not played well enough and a double-bogey five at the notorious par three 16th wrecked his hopes of making the cut.
He went out with a two over 38 and after a birdie at the 14th left him at 4 over, the projected cut mark, four straight pars would have been enough - but it was not to be.
"Three putting the 16th finished me off," he said.
"Compared to how I was hitting it in Switzerland when I won on the Challenge Tour three weeks ago, I just haven't hit it well enough.
"It disappoints me that me that I have not performed better on a course I really like, but there have been some good moments.
"It was still great to be back at the Open.
