An Oswestry college lecturer has resigned his post after being suspended from his duties.

Geoff Graham, 51, from Llansantffraid, had taught sport at Walford and North Shropshire college for 28 years.

He received a long service award from the Shropshire Schools Sports and Athletics Association in 2000.

Mr Graham also won the Central Wales Cup when he was manager of Welshpool, and coached under 18 county teams.It is understood he was suspended last month. The college confirmed today that he had since resigned.

After the suspension Mr Graham also stepped down as the manager of Ellesmere Rangers Football Club.

Speaking from his home in Llansantffraid today Mr Graham said he could not comment on the matter.

College principal Andrew Tyley confirmed that Mr Graham had now resigned from his post at the college.

"Because this matter is under investigation, it is difficult for me to comment," he said.

Chairman of Ellesmere Rangers Football Club, David Coles, said although the club had taken steps to replace Mr Graham, he will be missed as team manager.

Mr Coles added: "Geoff has done a lot of good work for the team over the past five years.

"He is very professional and thorough and we have always got on well with him."
