Meanwhile, COBRA's young second XV lost 32-10 to Builth Wells II in the final of the Mid Wales League Cup at Aberystwyth.

COBRA, who could still have the consolation of taking the Mid Wales League crown, had battled gamely for most part with centre Sion Wyn Williams and flanker Aled Davies both grabbing tries.

There were celebrations for Newtown II who lifted the Mid Wales Shield with a 17-9 victory over Llanidloes II in their final, also at Aberystwyth.

Left wing Richard Bowen put his side on course for the silverware with a first half try, while scrum-half and captain Pete Edwards went over for a second touchdown.
