"I was buzzing with that. It doesn't get much better than this on a personal note," said Vokes.

"The team did well in the conditions, but if we want to do anything this season, we've got to be looking for three points and we'll be looking to improve.

"I think we should have won, but at least we came away with a draw from what were terrible conditions."

Vokes admitted his only intention was to make an impact after replacing former Home Park favourite Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

"I just wanted to go on from the bench and do what I do and it was great to get the equaliser," he said.

Tucked

"To come on and make an impact like that on my debut is really pleasing.

"I don't remember too much about the move to be fair, it just came to me and I tucked it away."

Vokes knows he has to earn a place in the starting line-up and isn't taking anything for granted.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy admitted he had to freshen up his attack by introducing Vokes - but declared Ebanks-Blake will be "brilliant" this season despite being well shackled by his old club.

"He was brilliant for us last season and he will be this as well," said McCarthy.

"I just thought I'd change things and freshen things up with a bit more aerial physical presence. It was 'decision time'.

"I could have left it because he was going to get booed by the fans, or because he's our No 1 scorer.

"It's not always easy to come back to your old club where they used to love you and now they're calling you 'Judas' and greedy."
