Wolves keeper 'going nowhere'
Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey returns to Wolves' goal tonight with manager Mick McCarthy again warning Premier League vultures the Welshman is going nowhere.
Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey returns to Wolves' goal tonight with manager Mick McCarthy again warning Premier League vultures the Welshman is going nowhere.
The Wales international will reclaim the No 1 spot from Carl Ikeme against Reading at Molineux after serving a one-match ban against Bristol City on Saturday.
And McCarthy has again effectively issued a hands-off warning to any clubs interested in temping the giant Welshman away from Molineux by insisting he can fulfill his Premier League ambitions by staying put.
"Wayne is at a big club now," said McCarthy. "Everyone wants to play in the Premier League, but I'd imagine playing for Wolves at the moment is better than playing for 10 of those Premier League clubs scratching around trying to stay in that league.
"He's had one terrific season and has started this season well. He's getting better and better and he's recognised that his development is best served by staying here.
"Let's hope we can be a Premier League club at some stage."
And McCarthy insisted recalling Hennessey was a simple decision despite a solid performance from Ikeme on Saturday.
"Wayne Hennessey is playing," said McCarthy. "Carl Ikeme was different class on Saturday in what he had to do. He looked really assured, but Wayne has been terrific. He's the number one – that's the number on his back so he deserves that slot."
