A Welshpool athlete has come home from the Welsh Junior Championships with an impressive clutch of medals – and a new national record.
Adele Nicoll, a member of Oswestry Olympians, smashed the Wales Indoor under-13/under-15 shot putt record with a throw of 10.32 metres in Cardiff last weekend – breaking the previous best of 9.86m which had stood for 21 years.
That was enough to see the 12-year-old collect gold and keep her place as No 1 in the UK and Wales rankings.
Not satisfied with one gold medal, allrounder Nicoll also finished first in the 60 metres hurdles in a time of 10.26secs.
She is now ranked fourth in the UK and first in Wales in that discipline.
But the talented youngster still wasn't finished. The Welshpool High School student went on to compete in the 60m sprint, picking up silver in a time of 8.51 – after qualifying in the heats with a personal best time of 8.44.
Nicoll was crowned Welsh Indoor Combined Events Champion in November and is regarded as one of the country's brightest prospects for international glory.
