Greening calls for Gunners repeat
Returning Albion captain Jonathan Greening has demanded the spirit of 2005 as he eyes another famous upset over Arsenal at the Hawthorns.
Returning Albion captain Jonathan Greening has demanded the spirit of 2005 as he eyes another famous upset over Arsenal at the Hawthorns.
The Baggies skipper is targeting a start when the Gunners visit, after making a surprise return from injury as a substitute at Everton on Saturday.
Greening is looking for inspiration from the famous 2-1 victory in 2005 that was sealed with Darren Carter's stunning winner.
The 30-year-old said: "We need to draw on that. It was a great performance that day. On any day, if you play well, you have a chance. 'Carts' won that game for us with a left-oot volley and let's hope someone can do the same for us again."
Greening played for more than 30 minutes on Saturday in the 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park, after sitting out just five weeks with a medial knee ligament injury.
He is hoping he did enough to reclaim his place from the start against Arsene Wenger's men.
He said: "I hope to start. I'll be doing more strengthening work before the game so we will see how it goes. It's up to the manager.
"People will assume Arsenal will beat us, but we have to put a good performance in and do our best."
