Sundorne men finish with flourish

Shrewsbury ended their Midlands 4 West (North) season with a remarkable 46-14 win over Willenhall – who had previously won all 21 of their league games, writes CHRIS HUDSON.

The Sundorne Castle men have finished as runners-up, sealing their return to Midlands 3 level next season.

And they were certainly in party mood after an incredible display on Saturday.

Chris Tennuci and Phil Andrews got a try apiece in the first half, with Mattie Morris kicking one conversion, as Shrewsbury led 12-3.

But they ran away with it in the second half, with Tennuci adding four more tries to his personal tally and Andrews one more. Morris kicked three conversions and a penalty.

"They had a pretty strong side out, it was pretty much full strength," said spokesman Morris. "We knew that they were trying to defend their 100 per cent record but we thought that if we got on top their heads would drop."

Shrewsbury mark their centenary on Sunday with a special game against the Wooden Spoon/Anti Assasins side, sometimes known as the Northern Barbarians, at Sundorne Castle (3pm).

Whitchurch's Midlands 2 West season ended on a low note as they went down 54-10 at Camp Hill, in a game that also saw centre Rob Kellett suffer a serious shoulder injury.

Camp Hill ran in eight tries on their way to a comprehensive victory, the Reds reply coming via a Rob Brookshaw try converted by Danny Nicholas, who also kicked a penalty.

Hereford booked a play-off place with a 12-7 win over Bromsgrove.

Bridgnorth wrapped up a fourth place finish in Midlands 3 West (North) as they beat Stafford 34-17 at the Edgar Davies Ground.

Tries were scored by Aaron Robinson, Mike Preece (3), Adam Smallwood and Al Cooper. Matt Farrington kicked two conversions.

Ludlow's season ended on a disappointing note as they went down 43-18 at home to Lichfield, who finished third on points difference as a result.

In Midlands 4 West, the two Shropshire sides finished the season in the bottom two places after losing home games to end the campaign.

Bishop's Castle went down 25-0 against Tamworth, while Cleobury Mortimer are still without a league win all year as they went down 23-10 to Veseyans.
