Wolves in line for Lescott windfall

The club have confirmed a sell-on clause of at least 10 per cent - and possibly 15 per cent - of any profit Everton make on the £5m they paid for the England international three years ago.

That means Wolves would receive a minimum of £1m if the deal goes through.

But the figure could be much more.

The Goodison outfit are reluctant to let the 26-year-old leave, but believe they are facing a losing battle in the knowledge that money is no object for the world's richest club, who can double his estimated £35,000-a- week wages.

So Everton are holding out for £20m, based on the £17m Liverpool were forced to pay Portsmouth for Glen Johnson, a figure which would give Wolves a further £500,000 - more than covering the £1.2m they paid Southampton for Andrew Surman.

Lescott's sale could force the departure of City defender Richard Dunne, who could yet emerge as a shock target for Wolves.

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said: "We're interested if this transfer takes place and we're monitoring this closely."

Meanwhile, boss Mick McCarthy believes Roland Zubar will prove his worth after completing the £2.5m signing of the Marseille defender.

He will join up with his new team-mates on Wednesday in Australia.

He said: "I'm delighted we've managed to get Roland. Taff's (coach Ian Evans) seen him a lot and we've had some very good reports from those watching him in France.

"He will prove a valuable addition to the squad."

Wolves had believed the deal to be all but dead, only to receive a call to say the transfer was back on.
