Whitchurch claimed a big scalp in rugby's Shropshire Cup - sinking Newport 19-10 to be crowned county champions.

The north Shropshire side, who missed out on promotion in Midlands One West this season, had started as underdogs against their National League Three Midlands hosts,

But they produced a super performance to lift the cup in front of a healthy crowd at Forton Road.

Around 400 spectators turned up - with a quarter of those choosing to take in the Shropshire Vase final taking place at the same time.

The Vase, for the county's smaller sides, was won by Telford Hornets - who beat Market Drayton 6-0.
