Shropshire Colts produced a stirring display to lift the Haughton Harries Shield with a 35-25 victory over Greater Birmingham at Moseley.

It was only the second time that the youngsters had won the trophy, and they needed to show all their resolve after trailing 18-12 at the interval.

Newport's Adam Faulkner and fellow winger Andy Oakden (Whitchurch) both crossed in the first half, with Will Goodwin, of Ellesmere College, supplying one conversion.

Roared ahead

The Colts then roared ahead after the break as Whitchurch full-back Henry Hockenhull crossed, with Goodwin converting before kicking a penalty for a 22-18 lead.

Oakden got his second try of the game, scrum half George Baxter (Ellesmere College) also touched down and Goodwin added a penalty to put the game out of reach.

Greater Birmingham pulled back a late score but it was not enough to deny the county lads.
