Shropshire racehorse owner Tim Leslie missed out on seeing Overturn motor to victory in the £170,000 Northumberland Plate - after suffering a tyre blow-out while driving north.

Leslie, who farms north of Telford, was forced to listen to the race on the telephone after his mishap on the M6 near Kendal as he and Cholmondeley trainer Donald McCain made their way to Newcastle on Saturday.

But he still had plenty of reason to celebrate as the 14-1 shot scored by two and three quarter lengths from Drunken Sailor."He's a grand horse," said McCain.

The victory continues a remarkable success story for Leslie who enjoyed a National Hunt season to remember with star hurdler Peddlers Cross successful at both the Cheltenham Festival and the Grand National meeting at Aintree.
