Former Liverpool youngster David Raven has become Graham Turner's third summer defensive signing at Shrewsbury Town.

Raven, who can play at right back or centre half, has moved to the Greenhous Meadow from Carlisle on a one-year deal.

The 25-year-old began his career at Anfield, where he had a spell as reserve team captain and a loan stint at Tranmere before moving to Carlisle in 2006.

Raven - who played in the same Tranmere team as Shrewsbury coach Mike Jackson and fellow new recruit Ian Sharps - has gone on to make 154 appearances for the Cumbrians, but was released at the end of last season.

And the stopper has already stressed his determination to prove Carlisle manager Greg Abbott wrong for not offering him a deal.

"There is nothing more I would like to do than prove Greg wrong," Raven said.

"I have got a massive motivation to go out and do better. I will prove he has made a mistake."

Meanwhile, Town officials have hailed the impact of Turner — as the season ticket boom continues.

Around 500 of them have been snapped up since the 62-year-old returned to the club where he began his managerial career so spectacularly.

And general manager Jon Harris revealed that the number of season tickets sold was now not far short of the total at the start of last term.

"We're absolutely delighted," said Harris. "We're at about 2,650, which is about 100 down on last season's figure.

"On top of that we have the Sovereign Club members and the box holders which takes that figure up to nearly 3,000.

"We've had about a 500 surge on the back of Graham Turner's appointment, so his return has certainly had an impact.

"Our supporters have been magnificent and to have sold this many before we even kick a ball is brilliant."
