"I'm really pleased with having under par, because I have played so poorly this year," said Woosnam, the 2008 European Senior Tour order of merit winner.
"I've been working hard on my swing, so I don't have any big hopes but I'm there or thereabouts and let's see what happens."
Success
Former Hawkstone Park man Sandy Lyle missed the cut after rounds of 77 and 75.
It could be a weekend of double success for Shropshire with James Busby in contention for glory in a rare appearance on the Challenge Tour.
Busby, a professional at The Shropshire, in Muxton, Telford, has carded rounds of 70 and 66 at the English Challenge at Stoke-By-Nayland to lie eight-under-par, in tied 10th and just three behind the lead held by New Zealand's Daniel Gaunt.
Shrewsbury's Scott Drummond followed up his opening round of 70 with a disappointing 75 at the Nordea Scandinavian Masters in Sweden on the main European Tour.
That left him on one-over-par and in 51st place ahead of today's third round but 10 shots behind leader KJ Choi.
Lilleshall Hall's Peter Baker missed the cut after rounds of 80 and 78.
