Former Albion target Eric Djemba-Djemba has hit out at the Baggies for attempting to "cheat" Danish club Odense over his cancelled transfer.

The Cameroon's international's proposed move to the Hawthorns was called off when a Baggies medical threw up problems.

But the 29-year-old former Manchester United and Villa man has now slammed Albion for pulling the plug on the deal after failing to re-negotiate the transfer fee.

Djemba-Djemba said: "I'm really mad at West Brom. They tried to cheat OB (Odense) and tried to get me cheaper. It is not fair. OB had demanded a price that West Bromwich had accepted.

"But they changed the price. That is not right, especially as it's a lie that I still have problems after my injury.

"I have been examined by several physicians in Denmark, who have all said it looks good.

"And why would OB send me to England if they knew there was something wrong with me?"

Albion's medics found problems after medical tests on Djemba-Djemba, who missed the end of last season with Odense due to serious knee problems.

The Baggies were happy to go ahead, but were adamant they were justified in attempting to renegotiate the deal to reflect the medical issues.

The club have now moved on to new targets with weekend reports continuing to link them with new faces.

But stories concerning possible moves for Bayern Munich striker Deniz Yilmar and Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor were off target.

Former Spain international defender Pablo Ibanez and ex-Hull goalkeeper Boaz Myhill are the only additions so far to the team that won promotion from the Championship last season with the new Premier League just a fortnight away.

Head coach Roberto Di Matteo said: "We're obviously working on trying to strengthen our squad.

"We've been working very hard behind the scenes for the past three months.

"We know we're a little bit low on numbers and we've always been looking to bring in players who can help us during the season.

"I really hope something will happen over the next few days. But the transfer market is really difficult.

"One minute you think you're close and the next you're far away again."
