Shrewsbury Town defender Danny O'Donnell is facing up to a month on the sidelines - as his team-mates attempt to maintain their unbeaten League Two record at Stockport.

A trip to the specialist has confirmed O'Donnell has sustained a hernia which ruled him out of Tuesday night's Carling Cup trip to Stoke.

The former Crewe man will undergo surgery, and is likely to be absent for around four weeks.

The news will come as a blow to O'Donnell who had won the race to partner club captain Ian Sharps at the heart of the defence for the start of the season.

Shane Cansdell-Sherriff, impressive in the narrow 2-1 defeat to Stoke, is likely to continue to deputise at Stockport tomorrow.

Winger Lionel Ainsworth remains "touch-and-go" for tomorrow as he battles to overcome a minor groin problem picked up against Aldershot last week.

Shrewsbury will be boosted by the return of striker Matt Harrold after he served a one-match suspension at the Britannia Stadium.

Meanwhile, Town manager Graham Turner is wary of the threat Stockport, managed by former Town boss Paul Simpson, will pose tomorrow.

Shrewsbury are yet to be beaten in the league while Stockport are still searching for their first victory having drawn two and lost one of their first three games.

But Turner said: "They have a fair bit of experience when you look at the likes Danny Swailes, Robbie Williams and Barry Conlon.

"The second half performance at Stoke is the type of performance we are looking for, and that is something we did against players with a lot of Premiership experience.

"If we can produce that type of display on a consistent basis, we will not be far away."

Town will be looking to preserve an impressive recent record against Stockport having not lost in their last four meetings between the sides.
