"I felt a twinge in the ankle and I couldn't run it off on Tuesday so, rather than run the risk of making it worse, it was decided it best I came off," said Disley.
"I just turned the ankle a bit but we have got a good medical team at the club and I'm confident of being ready with some intense medical treatment over the next couple of days.
"I'm desperate to play because things have been going great so far this season."
Disley, aged 29, is keen for his side to return to winning ways in the League after last week's 1-1 draw with Torquay United saw them drop to fourth in the early npower League Two table.
"Psychologically, I think it is important to get back into the top three, and hopefully we can do that by winning the game on Saturday," he added.
"With the exception of Torquay, I think we are playing some good stuff.
"Morecambe is always a tough place to go but if we perform as we can, I'm sure we can get a good result."
Doncaster striker Waide Fairhurst, who had a spell on loan with Shrewsbury last season, has now joined Southend United on a temporary basis.
