Shropshire's archery ace Alison Williamson is celebrating her second Commonwealth Games silver medal in three days.

Alison, 38, followed up her team silver on Friday with second spot in the individual recurve final on Sunday morning, losing to 16-year-old Indian favourite Deepika Kumari.

And that capped a memorable games for the Lilleshall-trained star, who took bronze at the 2004 Olympics.

She said: "I think I'm satisfied with silver. I shot as well as I could today and my opponent shot a little better. It was much windier out there today than it has been so I had to adapt."

She said the crowd, which had caused controversy with its vocal support for the home nation in the team final, was much better.

She said: "I was very impressed with the Indian crowd. It's been a steep learning curve for them but they've really improved.

"They were very respectful out there today and it was nice to compete in that atmosphere."

Alison's mum Sue, who watched the action unfold at the family home in Church Stretton, said she was delighted with her daughter's performance.

She said: "She's done very well. If you go on ranking she shouldn't have even been there, because she was only ranked sixth, but she has got the experience.

"It wasn't really a surprise because in your head you know it is always there. She shot really well but they just weren't finding the middle and that's the way it goes."
